Campbell Collegiate

Being a Campbell student has definitely changed my life for the better. Throughout my years at Campbell Collegiate, I have been very committed in the arts, athletics and academic programs at my school. Whether it’s singing Christmas carols in the hallways with my choir or eating lunch with a special needs student, I find there is always something to do at Campbell to make my day special.

Sports have always been a huge part of my life, and I am happy to be attending a school with such a great athletics program. From basketball to handball, I have had the privilege to represent seven of my Campbell Tartan teams as Captain. This position has allowed me to grow both as a leader and as a person. One of my biggest athletic achievements during my time at Campbell was leading the junior girls’ basketball team to winning championships. Moments like that are what make me realize how amazing it is to be a Tartan.

In addition to sports, academics have always been important to me. I have maintained above an 85% average in all of the classes I have completed thus far, and I have no plans to abandon that pattern in Grade 12. I pride myself in maintaining amazing relationships with my teachers, which has helped me develop into the person I am today! Overall, I am a passionate person who likes to succeed in all aspects of my life. I find joy in helping others succeed, which in turn makes me a better person.

Campbell Collegiate

My name is Maren Rogers, and my involvement within my school and community has been an important part of who I am for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I moved a lot because of my dad’s career, and I became accustomed to the feeling of being the new kid and all the confusion that came with it. This experience sparked my desire to make sure that every new kid who came after me wouldn’t have to feel the uncertainty about their place like I did.

When the opportunity arose to become a member of the Student Leadership Council at Campbell Collegiate, I knew right away that it was something that I wanted to do, and I’ve been lucky enough to be a member of the SLC for the past four years. The ability to be a part of the decision making that can improve others’ high school experiences has not only allowed me to prove myself as a leader but also to come out of my own shell and boost my own confidence.

Another passion area of mine is my involvement with our school’s Best Buddies program. For the past four years, I have been able to see the immense kindness that this program promotes, and I look forward to lunches with my buddy every month.

Outside of my extracurricular activities, I am very focused on my academics—taking AP English, earning my place on honour roll each year, and always striving to improve my own ability to learn in all of my classes. I also work as a lifeguard/swim instructor and love working with children through teaching them the important skill of swimming.

I look forward to what the future will hold for me as I continue my education at the University of Regina this fall!

Dr. Martin LeBoldus Catholic High School

My name is Hannah Foord and I am a Grade 12 student at Dr. Martin LeBoldus Catholic High School. I am actively involved in athletics and extracurricular activities, not only within my school, but also within the community. I have played on the LeBoldus basketball teams for the past four years, as well as RCBA club basketball throughout my elementary school years. I have been playing ringette and softball since I was six years old; both have been a part of my athletics since a very young age and I plan to continue my growth and development in these sports going into my adult years. I enjoy playing golf in the summer with my family, as well as flag football throughout the spring. I am very family-oriented, spending time with my family out at our cabin on Pasqua Lake during the summers. This fall, I plan to attend the University of Regina in the Faculty of Education, which will be an exciting new journey as I enter adulthood. I consider myself a very outgoing person who has a natural leadership ability. I am the vice-president of the LeBoldus Student Representative Council and I have taken the lead on many projects and school activities this year. I am very honored to be chosen for this project with Twelfth Year and look forward to any future opportunities involving leadership roles within the community

Dr. Martin LeBoldus Catholic High School

My name is Mark Harasen and I have attended Dr. Martin LeBoldus Catholic High School for the past four years. During this time, I have played football for three years and soccer for one year. Outside of school, I enjoy working out, playing sports, and spending time with friends. I also enjoy playing the guitar and singing in my spare time. This year I joined choir and have been the president of the Student Council. Being president has allowed me to develop as a person and as a public speaker, as well as to become more confident. I have been looked up to by my peers as a role model for how to take advantage of all the opportunities high school has to offer. In my years at LeBoldus, I have learned all sorts of life lessons, made friends, and have become a more successful person. LeBoldus has been an amazing school that provides a welcoming and accepting environment for our diverse student body. My high school years have been great and I have loved being the SRC president. I will be forever grateful for my time at LeBoldus and I look forward to whatever comes next in university.

F. W. Johnson Collegiate

My name is Jullianna Belanger, and I am a student at F.W Johnson Collegiate.

I never considered myself a leader, contrary to what my teachers thought of me. Through the encouragement of my teachers at Johnson, I reluctantly joined the Leadership class in Grade 10, and I very quickly learned to love the class and the skills taught within it. I learned to recognize that when inequalities exist, that it is important to take action.

I have been fortunate enough to play for the Johnson basketball teams throughout my high school career. I love being part of a team. It is very important to connect with the team, to listen and to learn, whether we win or lose as a team.

My post-graduation plan is to become a middle-years teacher. I care about kids. I want to help students see that teachers care. I want to connect with children to help them discover their potential and be who they want to be.

When I was younger, school was easy for me. I have had to work hard in high school to find a balance between school, work and life. I have had many supportive people in my life who have pushed me to continue to work hard and succeed. I am thankful for these people. Support can only go so far, and I thank those who have stuck by me through my search for independence. I am who I am because of the special people in my life.

F. W. Johnson Collegiate

My name is Lydia Nguyen, and I am a Grade 12 student and proud Wildcat from F.W. Johnson Collegiate!

Throughout these past four years, I’ve been involved with a variety of circles at Johnson, including the concert band, badminton team, French club, and I was an Outdoor School leader earlier this year. In Grade 11, I had the amazing opportunity to participate in the school’s Leadership class where I was able to help organize school events and interact with my local community. I am also an advocate for LGBTQ rights and my friend and I hosted Johnson’s first Pride celebration to show support for students of all gender identities and orientations!

Concerning my academics, I’ve consistently maintained a high overall average of above 97% each year and am the recipient of numerous subject awards. I’m a multimedia artist with a strong passion for arts and culture. I love to work with anything I can get my hands on, but my strongest area is digital illustration. Though I’ve worked part time since I was 15, I do commission work on the side and occasionally participate in art anthologies online.

I’m a bit nervous about the road ahead, but I’m very excited to see where the future will take me! I’m currently enrolled in pre-pharmacy at the University of Regina’s Faculty of Science. I’d like to thank all of the incredible staff at Johnson, as well as my peers, for all of their constant support!

F. W. Johnson

My name is Sabah Sharif, and I moved to Canada as a Syrian refugee in 2016. Over the past four years, my life has greatly changed and I am proud of how far I’ve come.

I started Grade 9 as a shy person due to a lack of English skills, but with dedication and hard work, I was able to improve my English very quickly. I took every opportunity I was given to help myself grow as a person. I enrolled in many activities in my school that included singing in the choir and playing on the badminton team. I’ve also been an Outdoor School leader and the leader for the Peer Support group at Johnson. I seek excellence and that is shown in my academics since Grade 9.

Proudly, I started my journey of reconciliation and have been advocating for the importance of truth and reconciliation over the last few semesters. I hosted events regarding this issue and took part in the Treaty Four flag-raising ceremony at Johnson. I also wanted to give back to my community; therefore, I started volunteering at the Regina Open Door Society since the end of 2017 to teach young newcomers English and help them adapt to their new lives. Above all that, I manage to work part time to help support the family who has been there for me.

“You reap what you sow.”

My dedication and hard work have taken me to a new level and it has opened new doors and opportunities for me. I am thankful for my family, my teachers and all those who stood by me and supported me. I hope to become a pediatrician and serve in Doctors Without Borders program.

Harvest City Christian Academy

I like to think of graduation as the beginning of a new journey in life rather than the end of one. High school has helped to shape and prepare me for what is next to come, which I will admit, I’m not 100% sure what that is, but whoever really is?

I have spent the past four years of my life dedicated to achieving and striving for excellence in all that I do, whether that be sports, school or helping others. Throughout my time at Harvest City Christian Academy, I participated in basketball, badminton, cross-country running and volleyball, balancing that with outside club sport involvement in volleyball, tae kwon do and ringette. By the age of 14, I found my passion in volleyball and will be pursuing this passion at the post-secondary level, alongside my studies in science. The community that I have been surrounded with at Harvest City since Kindergarten helped me discover what I want from post-secondary education, which has guided me towards Providence University.

There is more to my life than just academics and sports. I grew up as the daughter of a small business owner of a health food store and became passionate about health, nutritious food and baking. I’ve been known to spend days tapping into my creativity, decorating cakes to surprise others for special occasions. From the time I was little, I was also intrigued by living things—everything from butterflies and ladybugs to dogs, cats and horses. My grandparents live on a farm and some of my most special memories involve time at the farm exploring nature.

I’ve been blessed to have had three special relationships with pets—our dogs Titus, Naya and Bailey all have special places in my heart. In my picture, I’m with my newest puppy, Bailey, who was acting quite shy during our photo shoot!

I look forward to what the future holds for me and am grateful Twelfth Year has helped capture some moments from my journey so far.

Harvest City Christian Academy

My name is Ethan Corpuz, and I was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. I am blessed with supportive parents, who have influenced my growth into the adult I am today, and with two older siblings, who help me succeed in classes and my activities.

I have attended Harvest City Christian Academy since Kindergarten, and during high school, I have constantly pushed myself to always try something new. Through it, I found great passions, including the Student Leadership Council (SLC) and Drama Club. I have been a member of the SLC for all four years of high school. My roles have been as the social representative leader and as the co-president. I received the School Spirit award and the Christian Service Award in both Grades 10 and 11 for my contributions to the SLC. I am thankful for the support and encouragement I received from my advisors, as well as the lessons they have taught me in leadership and in serving.

I have also been part of the Drama Club throughout high school and held the lead roles in Grades 10 and 11. My favourite role was Captain Georg von Trapp in The Sound of Music. I am grateful for the support of my drama teachers as they pushed my comfort limits.

After graduation, I will be attending Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Moose Jaw, enrolling in Architectural Technologies. I want to thank Erin and Andrea for the opportunity to be a part of Twelfth Year.

Harvest City Christian Academy

I am a Grade 12 student at Harvest City Christian Academy. I was involved with our Student Leadership Council for four years and in my Grade 11 year, I served as co-president. In 2019, I was chosen to participate in the Vimy Pilgrimage Award and was invited to spend a week travelling to Belgium and France re-tracing the steps of Canadian WWI soldiers.

My extracurricular and community involvement efforts have been recognized as a Loran National Finalist and through the awarding of the Sovereigns Medal for Volunteers, Saskatchewan Youth Indigenous Award for Outstanding Achievement, the Enbridge Youth Leadership Award, the Nutrien Youth Financial Management Award and the Elwood Harvey Co-operative Leadership Award.

I will attend McGill University in Montreal, and I plan to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce degree through the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill. I plan to eventually have a career in International Aid and Development.
