My name is Yohan, and I was born in India. Having an Indian mother and a Sudanese father, I was exposed to many diverse cultures. My family immigrated to Canada in 1998 and in 2002, my father became a pastor in Moose Jaw. Our house was always full of people from many walks of life.
In 2008, my family moved to Regina to plant a church. This drove me to learn musical instruments, as the praise and worship team was lacking a drummer. After three months of drum lessons, I began to regularly play for the team. I also learned how to play the acoustic guitar and the bass guitar. I realized that music was my passion and, before long, I was singing and leading worship for both church and school chapel.
In addition to playing music and singing, I also began creative writing. In 2009, I began working on a series of fantasy novels based on my childhood imaginings. By Grade 11, I had won many writing and music awards in school and from the Young Writers of Saskatchewan Association.
I am now working hard in my Grade 12 year to graduate with honours and will be studying at the University of Regina to become an English and music teacher.
