Van Gorrill

F.W. Johnson Collegiate

My name is Van Gorrill, and I am a senior at F.W. Johnson Collegiate. Throughout my life I have always participated and focused on athletics. I have played soccer since I was three years old and have played in both provincial, interprovincial, and American competitions. Sports have played a huge role in who I am today and have taught me so much, not only soccer but football as well. Sports have taught me not only how to be a leader, but how to work hard to have success for both myself and my team. Unfortunately due to COVID, I was only able to play football in my final year of high school, however I made the most of the little time I had. Although I haven’t really been one to do extra-curricular activities at school, football was definitely one that I really enjoyed and I had a blast being able to play and represent my school.

Throughout high school, I have focused on both academics and athletics, and have been recognized for that effort by being awarded multiple honour roll certificates, a highest average award in my grade, and Most Valuable Player for the F.W. Johnson Wildcats Football Team. Although COVID has brought difficulties and challenges throughout my high school life, I have worked hard throughout to maintain high academic and athletic levels, and to stay close with all of my friends and family.

I look forward to continuing my academic and athletic pursuits at a university level.
