Mattea T.

Sheldon Williams High School

I am Mattea, a senior at Sheldon-Williams Collegiate. Throughout my time at Sheldon I have been involved in many extracurricular activities and clubs. I have played for the basketball, volleyball, flag football, and handball teams, collecting two city finalist and two provincial champion titles thus far. Additionally, I play the flute in band and take several AP courses, including English, Psychology, and Biology all while maintaining a 90+ average.

Outside of school, basketball is a huge part of my life. I am fortunate enough to have played on Team Saskatchewan for the past four years, including the Canada Summer Games silver medalist team. Basketball has not only given me incredible athletic opportunities, but also taught me community, leadership, hard work, and confidence, shaping me into the person I am today. Using my love for basketball to give back to my community, I help coach children’s basketball camps, ref elementary school games, and score keep for the junior basketball teams at Sheldon. I also work part-time at a basketball gym, Tuxedo Courts.

At a smaller school like Sheldon, the teachers can create meaningful connections with individuals. These relationships give me the flexibility and support I need to accomplish my academic and athletic goals while being so busy. I also have an amazing family in my corner providing unconditional love and support helping me believe in myself and balance my crazy life. Next year I plan to continue my basketball career at a University while completing a Bachelor of Science degree.
