Hello! I am John and it would be an understatement to say that these past four years at Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School have flown by, right before my very eyes. A plethora of different experiences have created memories I will cherish for many years to come. Teachers, friends, and teammates have been a big part of my success in school, from achieving Honour Roll, to various extra-curricular activity accolades. High school has been an experience I will never forget. I feel very fortunate to have been able to experience Riffel’s brand of Catholic education which has prepared me for any challenges I may encounter in life. I am confident as a true Riffel Royal that I will overcome any obstacles in my way as I write the next chapter of my life, carrying the flag as a proud alumnus of this great institution.
Through my four years at Riffel, I have been actively involved in both sports and the SRC. I was chosen as a captain of both the soccer and football teams and I played basketball every year. During my four years as a member of the soccer team, I was selected as a team MVP and League All Star, back-to-back for Grades 11 and 12. In football, I was the running back for three years, and in my final year, I was voted by my teammates as the Offensive MVP and by my coaches as the Most Outstanding Citizen for the second year running. In addition to my participation in sports, I have held a position on the SRC for the past two years. In Grade 11, I was voted in as Athletics Director, a position normally reserved for a senior student. The following year, I was elected by the Riffel student body as SRC Vice President. Along with my extra-curricular involvement, I have also excelled academically, maintaining an overall average above 90%. I also participated in the University of Waterloo Math Contests and have achieved the highest marks in the years I have written this test. I plan to uphold my grades in university in the coming years in my quest to become an astrophysicist. Also, I want to thank my school for the great honour of being the 2015 nominee for the prestigious Schulich Leadership scholarship. It is a distinction I will cherish for the rest of my life. As I leave the great halls of Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School to embark on life’s next chapter, I take with me four years of experience and knowledge acquired from teachers, family, and friends. My time at Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School has shaped me into the man I am today, and every day of my life, I will strive to make myself and those around me better, in the best Riffel spirit possible.
