Xiangying L.
F.W. Johnson Collegiate
My name is Xiangying Liu, and I am a 2021 graduate at F.W. Johnson Collegiate.
I entered high school mind empty; all I wanted was to get good grades and get out. Sure, grades are important, but there is much more to high school that you can acquire. Nevertheless, I was and still am determined to get good grades. My dedication paid off to numerous academic awards and a pretty transcript. I know now that it is not the grades themselves that strengthen me, but the exhausting procedure. Likewise, that diploma means little to me if it isn’t for all I went through to achieve it-it’s the journey that matters.
Outside of academics, I had the opportunity to take part in numerous extracurricular activities. By the end of grade 9, I became a peer leader for the Regina Open Door Society. I worked with other peer leaders to be there for the newcomer students of Canada. After school, I volunteered at the Souls Harbour soup kitchen to participate in community service. Over the past six months, I have involved myself in the RCMP Youth Advisory Committee; I engaged in monthly discussions while working on projects concerning community issues. As well, I participated in the Treaty Four flag-raising ceremony at F.W Johnson Collegiate as a host.
Thanks to all the opportunities that my teachers and peers have provided me, I have grown to be more confident, optimistic, and ready for what awaits after high school.
