2020 marked a new year for Twelfth Year in many ways. To start the year off, COVID-19 came along and threw a wrench in everyone’s plans, and ours were no exception. Our 6th annual opening night gala went from being a night on the town, where people could mingle and enjoy hors d’oeuvres, into a movie night at home. Nonetheless, we persevered and created a unique online event that we are sure not to forget.
Before COVID-19 hit, we had grand plans of advertising in all of the high schools, with posters, announcements, and more in store. However, those plans got chucked out the window and we moved into the 21st century by employing an online and word of mouth advertisement strategy instead. This Plan B worked out and we had a successful first year of applicants with over 130 students applying to become a Twelfth Year Ambassador! We were ecstatic! Until we realized we had to go through each of these amazing students’ applications to find the top students from each school (anyone else struggling to be productive working from home?).
It took the team awhile to narrow down the crème de la crème, but once we did, wow! We cannot wait to meet and introduce all of this year’s ambassadors – we really think we have an elite group this year.
We were excited about all of the changes to the program, as we had the opportunity to start interviews and photo sessions earlier in the year and better take advantage of what the Saskatchewan summer and fall seasons have to offer.
Everyone at Twelfth Year would like to say a huge thank you to all of the 2021 Twelfth Year applicants. Every one of you has worked tirelessly to get to where you are, and will no doubt do great things in the future. Without all of your support, our program would not be what it is.
