Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School

I am a student at Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School where I am currently finishing my grade 12 year. In my four years, I’ve made many wonderful memories in school extracurricular activities such as being on the SRC, playing volleyball, fall/spring drama productions, Improv, Best Buddies, That’s Possible, badminton, track, and flag football. Being involved has become an important part of my lifestyle and has shaped me to be who I am. I have learned many lessons and skills from participating in these activities that I can apply in my everyday life. By being in a variety of different activities, I have made long-lasting friends. These friends have influenced me to become better at the things I do every day and they have encouraged me to never give up.

After high school, I plan to go to university and study to become a nurse. Ever since I was young, I have aspired to be a nurse and I have used this goal to strive for strong grades. Outside of school, I work two part-time jobs, one being at my family’s business. My family is a huge influence in my life as they constantly support me in all my endeavours. My ambitions have led me to become a leader, not only in my school, but as well as at my work and in my community. Thank you, Twelfth Year, for this wonderful recognition

My name is Amy Downey. I am currently in grade 12 at Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School. Throughout high school, I have been involved in numerous extra-curricular activities and I help out around my community in as many ways as I can. I have been involved with school drama productions and I have been on the Improv team for 3 years. In my first 2 years on the team, we won the city tournament–making history for Riffel. I am now in a senior role on the SRC (student representative council)and spend numerous hours each week planning events, assemblies, and school dances. Due to my high level of involvement and dedication, I have received extra-curricular awards. I also been on the honour roll since the start of high school. I am forever thankful for my time at Riffel because it has given me so many experiences and opportunities that I will hold forever. Additionally, I have two part-time jobs; in the future, I plan on attending the Blanche Macdonald school in Vancouver and enrolling in their global makeup program to further pursue my love for makeup

My name is Karlee Cooper and I am a proud student of Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School. My 4 years have been busy as I have tried to be as involved as possible. Getting involved with sports such as volleyball, basketball, track and rugby introduced me to many friends. I enjoy participating in theatre and have loved experimenting with improv and one acts and helping with costumes for the productions. These opportunities encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and shaped the outgoing personality I have today. I am a big fan of school spirit and have enjoyed being a member of the SRC. Additionally, I am thankful for the opportunity to be the Co-President of our Best Buddies chapter and getting to know each student. I find great joy in spending time with the FIAEP students and have taken part in That’s Possible Theatre and Special Olympics Basketball, forming lasting friendships. These activities have developed my passion for helping others and being a friend to all. I spend my free time working two part-time jobs at the YMCA Childcare Center and as a lifeguard/swim instructor or volunteering and hanging out with friends.

Academically, I am a top achieving student, taking great pride in my success and hard work. My goal is to earn great distinction again this year. I enjoy the challenge of AP courses and am currently taking Advanced English. I am looking forward my future at the University of Regina next fall, studying in the Faculty of Education.

My name is Nathan Cameron. I go to Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School. I belong to the SRC Tech Ops team as senior tech, so on school assembly days, before choir concerts, and other events you’ll see me running around setting things up and making sure everything runs smoothly. I have also enjoyed being a member of Choir and Vocal Jazz since grade nine. This has encouraged me to open up and to push myself out of my comfort zone. As well as being involved in these extracurricular activities, I work hard at school in my classes, which include AP Math, AP English and AP Art.

Outside of school, woodworking is a huge passion of mine. I got into the hobby after I acquired many of my great-grandfather’s tools from my grandma, and have grown my collection since then. I make things like pens, bowls, ring sand anything I can think of. I also enjoy robotics and 3D printing, but mostly I like to turn things that look like nonsense into pretty sweet projects.

After high school, I planonstudyingSoftware Systems Engineering at the University of Regina and hope to get a job in the AI sector. On the side I plan to continue my woodworking hobby and hope to create a small business out of it.
