Hunaid Khan

Balfour Collegiate

My name is Hunaid Khan, and I am a senior at Balfour Collegiate. Although it has only been a year since I moved to Canada, I feel like I have lived here forever. Through my dedication and commitment, I could partake in multiple extracurricular activities while taking extra classes in high school.

Being a part of the RCMP Youth Advisory Committee, I voice my opinions about the problems facing today’s youth and suggest ways to combat issues like drug addiction and impaired driving.

I am also the Peer Leader of my school, responsible for welcoming newcomers and helping them settle in Cannada. I consider this is the most important on the list as acknowledging cultural differences is key to making Canada progressive. Moreover, I volunteered at the Regina Food Bank, through which I realized the importance of giving back to the community, which helped me immensely when I was new to this country.

Apart from this, I intensely pursue my passion for coding. I previously participated in a hackathon where I built a carbon footprint calculator urging users to reduce their footprint, thus winning the award for the Best Hack and the Hacker’s Choice Award.

Even though it wasn’t easy to manage numerous activities along with school, I was able to excel at each of them, helping me win the Schulich Leader Scholarship. My journey until now wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my parents and my teachers, who pushed me to become the best version of myself. I sincerely thank each and everyone from my family and my school who was a part of my journey.
